You’re Rushing What Allah Wants to Elevate

He Lost His Uncle, His Wife, Then Was Taken to Heaven

Allah willed for ants to eat the Sahifah that hung in the Ka'ba.

An agreement for all Quraishi tribes to isolate Banu Hashim for their support of Muhammad ﷺ.

After three brutal years of starvation and exile, the boycott was finally lifted.

The Prophet celebrated! Freedom from oppression at last!

The joy was fleeting, as the curtain soon rose on the Year of Sorrow….

But the boycott had its toll on his family.

Abu Talib, the uncle who shielded him for decades, lay on his deathbed.

The Prophet sat on one side, pushing him to say, "Laa Ilaaha Ill-Allah".

Abu Jahl, sat on the other side, pushed him to stay firm on Quraishi paganism.

Abu Jahl won. Abu Talib died a disbeliever, destined for Jahannam.

The Prophet begged for his forgiveness until Allah made it haraam to do so.

Soon after, Khadija passed away, too.

And then the trauma at Tai'f. Stoned at the town he escaped to.

The most brutal year of the Prophet'slife, before Allah's Mercy came….

Whoever should desire the immediate. We hasten for him from it what We will to whom We intend.

17:18

In one night, we see the Prophet being woken by Jibril and taken from Makkah to Jerusalem to lead all the Prophets in prayer—

and then taken up through each of the Seven Heavens—

eventually meeting Allah. And the famous story of Him establishing the five prayers.

We want the same overnight success.

But we ignore that it comes with a price.

Both before and after.

The Prophet suffered a 3 year boycott during which many of his companions were tortured, murdered and abused.

Then, after a brief respite, his chief supporters in his wife and uncle, both died.

And man supplicates for evil [when angry] as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty.

17:11

The Wakeup Call

There are no shortcuts. You will have to suffer.

And even if Allah blesses you with the immediate, know there's a price to be paid

From today:

  • Enjoy the suffering. It will make your 'overnight success' so much more fulfilling.

  • Be careful what you wish for. Everything in this dunya has a price. If you want a beautiful wife, are you prepared to fulfil her rights? If you want a McLaren 720s, are you prepared for when it has a fault and you're charged £17,000 to fix it?

  • Trust in Allah's timing. Allah has written a magnificent story for you; be grateful for the ups and downs.

Juz 15 is a lesson in trusting Allah's timing. The first verse starts with the Prophet's ascension after his challenging year.

In contrast, the following few verses mention the Israelites facing two separate humiliations. Both involved widespread massacre of men, women, children and scholars.

Of a Babylonian Emperor walking into a masjid in horror to see blood boiling in a pot…then ordering for 70,000 believers to be slaughtered.

The Jews paid the price for their haste and short-term gratification—

will you?

Challenge:

Write down and say Alhamdulillah for three difficulties you're facing.

Perhaps they're the price you're paying for a future blessing.

Halfway through the Qur'an now. I've got 5 days to finish the rest.

Pray for me.

Talk soon,

Hamza.
