Most Pick the Easy Parts of Islam—This Surah Calls Them Out
Juz 10: No Bismillah. No mercy. No excuses.
I used to think I was committed to Islam.
I prayed. I gave charity. I avoided major sins.
Then I became a chef. Ramadhan days and nights spent with non-Muslims. Surrounded by degeneracy.
And I never called it out.
"It's just a bit of banter lad!"
It wasn't. It was my Imaan becoming hypocrisy….
Surah Tawbah is the most serious, most ruthless Surah in the Qur’an.
It is the only Surah that does not start with Bismillah.
Why?
Because in this Surah, Allah is not showing mercy—He is onto everyone.
Especially the hypocrites.
If your fathers, children, brothers, spouses, relatives, the wealth you gathered, the business you fear losing, and the houses that please you—if these things are more beloved to you than Allah, His Messenger, and striving in His cause, then wait for Allah’s judgment.
This is not a Surah for the weak-hearted.
Allah exposes those who hesitate.
The disbelievers who broke treaties.
The hypocrites who plotted behind the scenes.
The lazy Muslims who made excuses instead of fighting.
The soft-hearted believers who hesitated to cut ties with disbelievers.
Surah Tawbah is pure accountability.
No sugarcoating. No compromises. No feel-good distractions.
The Hypocrites Were Just Like You
Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allah and disliked striving with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah. They said, ‘Do not march forth in the heat.’ Say, ‘The fire of Hell is more intense in heat’—if only they could understand.
The hypocrites had one defining trait: They only acted when it was easy.
Sound familiar?
I used to tell myself "I’ll start tomorrow."
I used to justify small sins because "at least I was better than most."
I used to hesitate when sacrifice was required.
Like a hypocrite.
And Allah does not tolerate it.
The Wake-Up Call: Would You Have Been in the Cave?
If you do not aid the Prophet—Allah has already aided him when the disbelievers expelled him, when he was one of two in the cave, and he said to his companion, ‘Do not grieve; indeed, Allah is with us.’
During the Hijrah, the Prophet ﷺ had a man beside him.
Abu Bakr.
He did not hesitate.
He did not seek approval.
He did not make excuses.
Meanwhile, the hypocrites stayed behind, made excuses, and watched from the sidelines.
Compare that to today.
Most men water down their Islam so they don’t get labeled "extreme."
Most men seek validation from disbelievers instead of standing firm.
Most men compromise their deen because they fear rejection more than they fear Allah.
Abu Bakr did not hesitate. Would you?
No More Excuses—Here’s What to Do Instead
Yes, Surah Tawbah is harsh. But Tawbah means repentance.
Even after exposing the hypocrites, Allah reminds us:
Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charity? And that it is Allah who is the Accepting of Repentance, the Most Merciful?
You’ve made excuses before. That’s the past. Here’s how you prove you’re not a hypocrite:
Stop delaying your obligations.
Fulfil your promises.
Commit to something difficult for the sake of Allah.
Cut off what weakens your deen.
Take responsibility for your role as a Muslim.
You don’t have to be perfect. But you have to commit fully…
…and watch as the dunya is brought to your feet.
Just as the lands of Persia, Arabia and Rome were brought to the feet of Sahaba.
Commit to one thing from the list. Stick to it.
It might be the only thing keeping you from the fire.
