Juz 13 – The Reason You’re Still Broke

Allah send down wealth for two reasons. Find out why.

I used to think wealth would fix everything.

That once I had money, I’d finally be free.

Chased my dream opportunity at the biggest investment bank in the world.

Then escaped it.

Chased my chef career.

But the lifestyle forced me to escape that too.

I was tired of chasing. Of feeling like I was falling behind.

That’s when I realised—I never asked myself why I wanted wealth.

And worse: I never asked why Allah sends it.

“Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.”

(13:11)

The famous Muslim self-improvement verse. It's famous because it's true.

I was waiting for wealth to change me.

I was waiting to improve myself after I had it.

Once I had some, I didn't. I was worse.

Because my reason for chasing wealth wasn't honest and sincere.

It was purely material. Superficial. No different to a man chasing a mirage—

and blaming the sand when he stays thirsty.

Then I came across the hadith of the Prophet :

Verily, We have sent down wealth for the establishment of prayer and the giving of zakah.”

That flipped everything for me.

Wealth wasn’t meant to give me escape. It was meant to make me more obedient.

Not more comfortable—more accountable.

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.”

(14:7)

And what is gratitude?

Gratitude is praying on time.

Gratitude is purifying your money.

Gratitude is not asking for more when you haven’t fulfilled what’s due.

Imagine you had an employee who arrives late, doesn't pay attention at work, refuses to mingle with coworkers, has no manners, dresses inappropriately, shares secrets with competitors…

…then dares to always ask for pay rises and more benefits?

Read that again.

The Wakeup Call:

“It is Allah who extends provision to whom He wills and restricts it.”

(13:26)

You’re not broke because you’re not smart enough.

You’re not stuck because Allah forgot you.

You’re broke because you aren't ready for wealth.

Because your intentions aren't sincere.

Your motivations just aren't good.

So Allah is saving you from the sins you'd be able to do.

From Today, No Excuses:

  • Don’t chase money—chase obedience

  • Pray every salah on time, no excuses

  • Start learning your Zakah obligation now, even if you’re broke

  • Make du’a every day: not just for rizq, but for responsibility.

Challenge:

Ask yourself:

If Allah gave you £10k today—Would it bring you closer to Him?

Or would you stop praying on time?

Delay zakah? Fall back into arrogance, indulgence, or distraction?

You don’t need more money. You need to become the kind of man wealth can’t corrupt.

That’s what Ibrahim عليه السلام asked for.

“My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my du’a.”

(14:40)

He didn’t ask to be rich. He asked to establish prayer. And for his children to carry that legacy.

That’s the man I’m trying to become.

Righteous. Rich. A muqeem as-salah.
